Neuromuscular Therapy Q & A
What are the Benefits of Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT)?
This therapy offers many benefits. It improves circulation, maintains flexibility in the joints, reduces stress, and allows a patient to relax. NMT works deep into the tissues can break up pockets of toxins and contaminants that tend to accumulate after exercise of if a person has been ill. Neuromuscular therapy flushes these toxins out of the body, allowing fresh oxygen and nutrients to take their place. This therapy also relaxes tissues in the body effectively eliminating both tension and inflammation. By reducing inflammation, nerves are better able to function. Both the muscles and the nerves receive freshly oxygenated blood that is required for them to function efficiently.
How Does NMT Benefit the Nerves?
Neuromuscular therapy benefits the nerves, just as it does the muscles and connective tissues. Nerves that become trapped or pinched because of inflammation or injuries are able to be released through the manipulations of the soft tissue. The therapy uses manual manipulation to move and adjust the muscles, eliminating any swelling or inflammation. When an injury causes inflammation, it can put pressure on both the muscles and the nerves. Once the inflammation is gone and the pressure is relieved, NMT encourages blood flow to the damaged nerves. This brings fresh oxygen and nutrients the nerves need to heal and regain proper function.
What Conditions can NMT Therapy Treat?
NMT can treat a variety of health conditions, especially when it comes to neuromuscular conditions. NMT has been proven to dramatically reduce and even eliminate many of the following conditions:
Back & Neck Pain Sprains/Strains
Sports Injuries Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Sciatica Hip Pain
Headache/Migraines Restricted Range of Motion
MVA Injuries TMJ
Numbness/Tingling in Extremities Frozen Shoulder/Rotator Cuff
NMT goes deep into the fibers of the muscle and into the nerves. Deep tissue therapy promotes healthy blood flow throughout the body and can actually stimulate the body's own healing responses when it comes to neuromuscular diseases that cause deterioration and eventually loss of muscle tone and sensitivity.
